Self-care has become kind of a buzzword lately. We hear a lot about how important it is, but we don’t always know the science behind self-care…
I’m here to help!
I have regular self-care rituals in place, and I cherish that time. I’ve found that when I’m diligent about taking care of myself, everything else gets better. I’m better at my job, I show up in better ways for my family and friends, and I can feel a remarkable improvement in my mental and physical health.
Self-care matters, and it’s a whole lot more than just getting your nails done or taking a bubble bath (but those can definitely be a part of your self-care routine if they make you happy and relaxed!)
Here are 3 important reasons you should make time for self-care every day:
1. Self-care Makes You Better at Coping with Stress
It doesn’t matter what line of work you’re in or how big your company is- stress is just part of the job, and you have to be able to handle it. Maintaining regular self-care lowers your overall stress level, releases tension, and allows you to unplug and unwind, and that comes in handy when chaos ensues!
If you’re already stressed and overwhelmed when problems arise, it’s going to be that much harder to handle it calmly. But if you’re coming from a place of rest and relaxation, you’ll be calm and cool-headed and better equipped to find a solution without freaking out.
2. Self-care Improves Your Sleep
The healthiest thing you can do for your body is get a great night’s sleep, but so many of us struggle with insomnia night after night, and that really takes a toll! It’s no wonder we’re struggling to sleep. It’s almost impossible to get the restorative deep sleep your body needs when you’re still wound up from the day.
Establishing great sleep routines is an important form of self-care. When you get enough sleep, you feel better, the brain fog lifts, and you’re ready to take on the day and stay focused through every task that awaits you!
3. Self-care Improves Your Cognitive Function
When you are relaxed and centered your brain actually works better. It’s true! Mindfulness improves both your concentration and your memory, and who couldn’t use a boost with that?
So, take time to meditate, journal, or just sit with your thoughts. Your mind will be sharp as a tack, and you’ll feel better than ever!
