Setting goals for your business is really important, but without an action plan backing them up, you’re unlikely to reach your milestones.

The road to your ultimate goal has many steps along the way, and each one needs to be precisely mapped. You start by creating the strategies that lead you to your goals, and then it’s time to put them to work!

Here are 5 easy steps to turn your strategy into action:

1. Break it Down

Strategies are often broad and need to be broken down into smaller, step-by-step plans. So take it piece by piece, and establish what needs to happen in every step.

2. Hand Out Assignments

Now that you’ve got the steps mapped, you’ve got to define who’s taking care of what. Start with the things that only you can do - that’s your part. Then delegate all the other elements to your team. Think about your team members’ strengths and areas of expertise and assign duties accordingly.

3. Set Your Budget

The ideas may be free, but the implementation isn’t! Set a budget for your action plan. Think about the tools, tech, overhead, and human power you’re going to need to set this strategy in motion. Don’t skimp on the help! Seriously, if you try to take on too much and do it all yourself to save money, you’re compromising the efficiency of your strategy before it ever starts!

4. Put it in Writing

How are you going to remember all of those important steps and delegated assignments if they’re not written down (or preferably organized in your project management software)? You may have a mind like a steel trap, but you still need to put your action plan in writing where every member of your team can access it.

5. Keep Your Strategy on Track

This may be the most important piece of the implementation puzzle! You have to set your metrics or KPIs early so you can monitor your progress. And you have to meet with your team regularly to ensure everything is getting done according to schedule. Don’t just wait and hope! Stay on top of things so you can immediately identify delays, hiccups, or any other issues that might prevent you from reaching your goals and fixing them quickly.
